Class #8: The importance of playing when we learn a language

During this English class the teacher talked to us about the importance of gamification and how people and students are motivated through games, so during the section we played "Among us" to practice speaking skills and learn new vocabulary. .Therefore, in this blog I would like to talk about gamification and the importance of playing during language learning.

Gamification is the use of game elements and principles in non-game contexts, like education. When it comes to learning a language, incorporating elements of gamification can make the process more enjoyable and engaging. By turning language learning into a game, learners are motivated to participate actively, setting goals, earning rewards, and competing with themselves or others.

Games offer a safe space for experimentation and practice, allowing learners to try out new vocabulary and grammar structures without fear of failure. Through interactive challenges, quizzes, and role-playing scenarios, learners can apply their language skills in a fun and immersive way. Additionally, games provide instant feedback, allowing learners to track their progress and identify areas for improvement, which can boost confidence and motivation.

Furthermore, games can foster collaboration and social interaction, providing opportunities for learners to communicate and problem-solve with peers. First of all, the teacher talked to us about the importance of motivation and then gave us a brief explanation about the certification exams, a topic that I found very interesting because it is a step that we must take as English teachers.
