Class #10: The importance of evaluation

Imagen
During this class we took an exam in which each of the communication skills was evaluated: listening, speaking, writing and reading. Personally, I felt comfortable during this exam, so I can say that in the semester I was able to learn many significant things that helped me practice and strengthen my language skills. Because of this, in this blog I would like to talk about the importance of evaluation when learning a new language. Assessing progress is essential when learning a new language. Evaluations help learners understand their strengths and areas needing improvement. Through tests, quizzes, and speaking assessments, students can gauge their language skills and track their development over time. Regular evaluation also provides valuable feedback to both learners and teachers, guiding them in adjusting learning strategies and lesson plans accordingly. Furthermore, assessments motivate learners to stay engaged and focused on their language learning goals. Knowing that their progres...

Class #9: The importance of vocabulary

Imagen
During this class the teacher talked to us about the importance of knowing vocabulary and about our duty to learn grammar and strategies to help our students learn the language. However, he emphasized that teachers are intermediaries and that it is always our responsibility to practice and improve our skills, therefore, discipline is essential. In addition, we played among us and did some listening exercises. Therefore, in this blog I would like to talk about the importance of learning vocabulary when learning English and how motivating our students to be disciplined can help them in their process of learning a language. Learning vocabulary is crucial when acquiring English skills. Words are like building blocks that construct sentences and convey meaning. The more words a learner knows, the better they can express themselves and understand others. Teachers can motivate students to learn vocabulary by making it fun and relevant to their interests. Activities like word games, flashc...

Class #8: The importance of playing when we learn a language

Imagen
During this English class the teacher talked to us about the importance of gamification and how people and students are motivated through games, so during the section we played "Among us" to practice speaking skills and learn new vocabulary. .Therefore, in this blog I would like to talk about gamification and the importance of playing during language learning. Gamification is the use of game elements and principles in non-game contexts, like education. When it comes to learning a language, incorporating elements of gamification can make the process more enjoyable and engaging. By turning language learning into a game, learners are motivated to participate actively, setting goals, earning rewards, and competing with themselves or others. Games offer a safe space for experimentation and practice, allowing learners to try out new vocabulary and grammar structures without fear of failure. Through interactive challenges, quizzes, and role-playing scenarios, learners can apply thei...

Class #7: Mindfulness

Imagen
In this English class we talk about some very new topics. First, the teacher showed us a video about how learning a new language can change our thoughts and help us improve our learning ability. Then he told us about the final works, which are a podcast and a video essay, on a specific topic. What resonated with me was the importance of emotional well-being at school and how the practice of mindfulness helps in that process. Lastly, the teacher allowed us to practice our language skills through some exercises. With this in mind, in this blog I would like to talk about how mindfulness can help us improve our well-being and how it can help us in learning a language. Mindfulness is all about being present in the moment and paying attention to what's happening around us. It helps us to calm our minds and reduce stress, which can have a positive impact on our overall well-being. By practicing mindfulness, we can learn to manage our emotions better and respond to situations with clarity ...

Class #6 : The importance of motivation

Imagen
Very interesting topics were covered during this class. First of all, the teacher talked to us about the importance of motivation and then gave us a brief explanation about the certification exams, a topic that I found very interesting because it is a step that we must take as English teachers. We also practice some of the communication skills, writing and listening, to continue training ourselves in learning the language. Taking into account what was covered in the class, in this blog I would like to talk about the importance of motivation when learning a language. Motivation plays a crucial role in language learning. When you're motivated, you're more likely to stick with your studies, even when things get tough. Motivation gives you the drive to keep going, to practice regularly, and to push through challenges. It's like the fuel that keeps your language learning engine running smoothly. Moreover, motivation can help you stay focused on your language learning goals. When...

Class # 5 : Why is it important to develop the four communication skills when we are learning English?

Imagen
In this class the teacher taught us about passive voice, which could improve my understanding of verb tenses and my use of them. In addition, we did several listening and writing exercises, which is why in this reflection I would like to discuss the importance of practicing and developing the four communication skills: listening, reading, writing and speaking. Learning and practicing the four communication skills - speaking, listening, reading, and writing - when learning English is important for several reasons. Firstly, developing all these skills helps us communicate fully and effectively in English. This means understanding others when they speak or write (listening and reading) and expressing ourselves clearly when we speak or write. Additionally, in real life, we use these skills together. For example, in a conversation, we listen to understand, speak to respond, read to comprehend written texts, and write to communicate messages. Improving in these four areas helps us become mor...

Class # 4 : The importance of immersion and meaningful communication scenarios in English language learning

Imagen
During this class the teacher focused on teaching the perfect tenses, specifically, present and past perfect. And although I did not attend the class due to health issues, I did the exercises that the teacher proposed regarding those topics. Personally, I have to admit that these tenses still seem a little complicated to me because I don't use them much when I speak. Usually, I always use simple present, simple past and simple future, which is why I feel that I need a lot of practice to improve the perfect tenses use when I speak, write, read and listen. Therefore, in this reflection I would like to talk about the importance of practice, perseverance and the creation of meaningful communication scenarios. Especially that last one seems very important to me when I am teaching and learning. Immersion is a key factor in language learning. It provides learners with the opportunity to surround themselves with the target language and culture, which can facilitate the acquisition of voca...
