Class # 5 : Why is it important to develop the four communication skills when we are learning English?

In this class the teacher taught us about passive voice, which could improve my understanding of verb tenses and my use of them. In addition, we did several listening and writing exercises, which is why in this reflection I would like to discuss the importance of practicing and developing the four communication skills: listening, reading, writing and speaking.

Learning and practicing the four communication skills - speaking, listening, reading, and writing - when learning English is important for several reasons. Firstly, developing all these skills helps us communicate fully and effectively in English. This means understanding others when they speak or write (listening and reading) and expressing ourselves clearly when we speak or write.

Additionally, in real life, we use these skills together. For example, in a conversation, we listen to understand, speak to respond, read to comprehend written texts, and write to communicate messages. Improving in these four areas helps us become more competent in the language. We can engage in complex conversations, understand different types of texts, and express ourselves fluently and accurately.

Having good communication skills is also important for success in school and work. People who can speak, listen, read, and write well have more opportunities to progress academically and in their careers. Moreover, learning these skills helps us better understand other cultures and connect with people from different places. It's a way to learn about the world and build meaningful relationships with others.

Therefore, from this class I could understand the importance of offering our students very varied experiences that allow them to develop the four communication skills to use the language more effectively.
